It started with a trip to the Northeast of Brazil in 1999 when Jorge Continentino was turned on to the pifano (a flute made of bamboo) by his friend Ramiro Musotto, noted Brazilian percussionist and producer. While they were playing and touring together with the popular pop-rock ska band Skank, they started a project together called "Caatinga Urbana" with songs written and recorded by Musotto and Continentino. Musotto has unfortunately passed in 2009 and the music theyrecorded together was never released. Jorge Continentino, who has recorded and performed with respected musicians like Milton Nascimento, Bebel Gilberto to name a few, will debut the music together with the cast of Forro in the Dark.
The opening set is by Loop B, a native of Sao Paulo whose solo performance combines electronic beats with junk percussion, anything from car dashboards to washing machines. Loop B has released seven albums and has worked closely with major Brazilian institutions to present his work. This is a unique performance where computer music meets Brazilian swing.
